It has been a busy week! Every day has been filled, every minute on the move. There are choices along the way. At times it seems difficult to distinguish between a compromise and sacrifice.

Let’s see what google says about both.

A compromise is a way of settling differences by everybody making concessions. If you want to stay out until 10 and your friend wants to stay out until midnight, 11 is a good compromise. Compromise comes from the Latin compromissum, which means “mutual promise.” It can be a noun or a verb.

A sacrifice is a loss or something you give up, usually for the sake of a better cause. Parents sacrifice time and sleep to take care of their children, while kids might sacrifice TV time to hang out with mom and dad.

I guess this is what I expected. It sure feels like a sacrifice when compromising.  Maybe the big difference to me is that to compromise is to move me forward. I may be giving up something such as my time, energy, money, effort but all of these allow me to move forward if I am compromising for something with meaning. Maybe it is as simple as a mind-set. It is easier to give something up if you know it is for a greater good.

Thanks for spending a few minutes with me today.
